Road to the top
Road to the top route is perfect for road cyclists who aim to have good distance and nice climbing days to the top of continental Portugal. Conquering the almighty Torre on the third day of riding.
Advantages for this tour is that it starts from Porto, no long transfers from airport, and also ends there. Great way to also see the city!
We head out from Porto and ride on one of the most beautiful roads considered for cycling, N222. Windy roads going up and down on the mountain roads. What a day to start the tour!
Second day starts on famous N2 road and then heads towards the Serra da Estrela mountain range. Then the third day is D-Day for the tour, conquering the Torre. And of course besides the amazing views we all get to appreciate the typical ham and cheese sandwich on the mountain top. On the fourth day we get through from the hills and get to the Atlantic coast line, relief for the legs to have some riding on the flat. The last day of the tour is following the coast line and a nice easier day to end the trip and get acquainted with Porto.
Totals of the tour 5 days of riding with 500 km and approx. 7540m+.
Day 1 -
arriving to Porto (airport), transfer to the hotel in the afternoon, check-in and setting up the bikes for the tour. Dinner at a local restaurante.
Day 2 -
baggage to the transfer and we start out ride from hotel in Porto. Day totals 124 km with about 2600m+, two planned cafe stops to refill and refuel. Arriving to hotel in Carvalhal. Dinner at a local restaurante.
Day 3 -
baggage to the transfer and we start out ride from hotel in Carvalhal. Day totals 88 km with about 1550m+, one planned cafe stop to refill and refuel. Arriving to hotel in Seia. Dinner at a local restaurante.
Day 4 -
baggage to the transfer and we start out ride from hotel in Seia. Day totals 90 km with about 2070m+, one planned cafe stop at top of the mountain, refuel with the typical ham and cheese sandwich of Serra da Estrela. Arriving to hotel in Tábua. Dinner at a local restaurante.
Day 5 -
baggage to the transfer and we start out ride from hotel in Tábua. Day totals 118 km with about 850m+, two planned cafe stops to refill and refuel. Arriving to hotel in Aveiro. Dinner at a local restaurante.
Day 6 -
baggage to the transfer and we start out ride from hotel in Aveiro. Day totals 80 km with about 470m+, one planned cafe stop to refill and refuel. Arriving to hotel in Porto.
Farewell with our guide at dinner at a local restaurante.
